Prairie Gardens

This former wildflower meadow was transformed into a series of grass beds, interconnected through meandering paths and subpaths. We installed CorTen steel edges to emphasise the contemporary nature of the garden. The design was influenced by the work by famous Dutch plantsman Piet Oudolf. A sloping site and heavy clay soil drove us to carefully select ornamental grasses and drought resistant plants to provide for texture, movement, and seasonal interest. The grass beds incorporate taller grasses such as Miscanthus 'Malepartus', Panicum virgatum 'Northwind' and Molinia caerula 'Goldtau'. Flowering perennials include Aster "Andenken an Alma Potschke", Echinaceae "Bressingham hybrids'  and Sanguisorba officinalis 'Arnhem'.

The grass beds are at their prime in autumn and winter.

All plants were sourced from local professional nurseries.
